It’s the most wonderful time of the year… again. So much of the fun childhood Christmas memories you have involve decorating the house for Christmas. But why stop with a Christmas tree and a wreath? There’s so many outdoor decorating options to make your home look festive, and you don’t have to go as overboard as a Christmas Vacation styled lights display either. Here are 4 beautiful and simple outdoor Christmas decorations you can use to make the outside of your home look festive year after year.

1. Christmas Pots

This is one of the most beautiful outdoor Christmas decorations and would look great at the bottom of your porch steps or on either side of your front door, and it’s oh so easy to make.

What you need:

  • Evergreen garland, real or artificial
  • Pinecones
  • Floral wire
  • Ball-shaped Christmas ornaments in festive colors. (Plastic is best.)
  • Medium-large terra cotta pots

Take several sprigs of garland and line the inside of the pot with them, until some of the garland is hanging over the edge of the pot. Attach the ornaments and pinecones to the top of your garland with wire. Voila!

2. Snowman Door Decor

This is yet another great piece of outdoor Christmas decorations that is meant to make your Christmas an occasion to remember. This snowman will add a heart-warming whimsical touch to your front door!

What you need:

  • 3 grapevine wreaths, 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 large
  • White or off-white spray paint
  • Floral wire
  • Command strips for hanging
  • Scarf and/or winter hat

On a protected surface, spray paint each wreath. Once the wreaths dry, you can attach then in order of smallest to largest, using floral wire. Wrap a scarf around your snowman’s hat or put a hat on his head and hang him on your door .

3. Paper Plate Lollipops

We can hardly discuss outdoor Christmas decorations without this particular one coming to mind. This decoration will make your driveway and garden look worthy of Santa’s elves.

  • Paper plates: The more lollipops you want to make, the more plates you’ll need
  • Craft paint in festive colors
  • Cellophane plastic wrap
  • Ribbon
  • Thin wooden dowels cut into 2-foot lengths
  • Glue and hot glue gun

First, paint designs on the backs of the paper plates. Cut your ribbon long enough to tie a bow., Glue one plate on each side of the dowel with the designs facing out, on each side of the dowel. Place cellophane wrap in a bag over the top and bunch together to make it look like a wrapped lollipop. Tie a ribbon around the “lollipop stick” and “wrapper”.

4. Wooden Ladder

These beautiful rustic wood ladders add a beautiful touch to your décor if you want to use lights without looking tacky, because it wouldn’t be Christmas without lights.

What you need:

  • Extra thick wooden dowels: 2 dowels 4 feet in length, 3 dowels 14 inches in length
  • Chalk paint in the color of your choice, optional
  • Christmas lights
  • Ornaments
  • Natural twine
  • Wood glue

Lay your long dowels on the floor, side by side. Measure up 12 inches and glue one of the short dowels in between the two pieces, repeat this process two more times. Once dry, you can paint the wooden “ladder”. Add ornaments, garland and lights, for a subtle way to add some light to your décor!
